The Subject in May!
We’re super thrilled to have been asked by our hero Christina Gausas to be part of this amazing show that’s happening at the Magnet Theater this month!
This month Christina Gausas is directing “The Subject” — an improvised form that follows the central character of the evening (the subject), never leaving the stage while the others enter and exit as various friends, relatives, demons and fantasy figures. Scenes in the present alternate with remembrances of things past (or, on occasion, visions of the future), sometimes jogged by a resonant object or sound. The effect is of life flashing before someone’s eyes and you witnessing every recollection. Created by Alex Fendrich
Featuring: Alex Marino, Angela DeManti, Binu Paulose, Liz McDonnell, Louis Kornfeld, Megan Gray, Ruby Marez, Sebastian Conelli & Tom Levin
Every Thursday night in May, 10pm @ the Magnet Theater! Peep the link, yo!
Episode 6 of our trip to Toronto & the Toronto Improv Festival is up!
Paolo (the batshit loco Megabus driver) is talking to the dispatcher in Spanish about Ruby and wants Ruby off the bus! Plus at a rest stop in Syracuse, Binu recalls a private conversation that he has with the Megabus driver at a Subway food station where the driver tries to reason with Binu. Seriously?
Study With Rachel Hamilton!
RuBin loves Rachel Hamilton - she’s our improv mom! We actually formed as an improv duo through a class with Rachel two summers ago & we’ve never looked back. She has been nothing but supportive, nurturing, caring, & honest to us about our improv. It’s because of her that we’ve grown not only as improvisers but as people. Damn, we just got real right now. *sniffle*
Any opportunity available where you can study improv with her is a GIFT! Take this weekend master class in November & you’ll love her as well.
Here it is! A full 9 minute clip from our performance at Roman Rimer’s benefit show “Evolution Revolution” this past Monday at the Magnet Theater!
Jerry Stiller was in the audience & afterwards told us how terrific we were! We hope you like it as well!
RuBin is honored, thrilled & psyched to be performing in Roman’s fundraiser for his show Evolution on Mon. June 6th, 7pm at the Magnet Theater! Not only that, but an improv reunion from the wonderful Yes Andersons and hilarious sketch comedy from The Weird Sisters (Angela DeManti & Emily Shapiro)!
There’s a suggested donation of $10 for the show, which is totally worth it. Check out Roman’s Kickstarter page at the link below:
Hey guys! Hope you’re enjoying all the info about my projects on Tumblr, and my photos and music. Sometimes your “likes” really make me feel better about being an artist in this sometimes admittedly difficult metropolis!
I’m posting for a very specific reason:
Last year I directed an amazing one man show written by and starring my friend Roman Rimer called Evolution.
In the fall of 2009, Roman traveled to the Southern United States and did a bunch of outreach work with queer-identified youth. His concentration was at Universities where students were not allowed to be openly gay - pretty rough places for people trying to earn an education. Evolution is about those experiences.
I really loved working on the show. Evolution deals with issues of identity, regional differences and similarities and is also really funny and heartfelt. We had a great run of eight shows at The Magnet Theater in NYC.
Now, this summer, we are taking the Evolution on tour! We are going to the Kansas City, Indianapolis and Chicago Fringe Festivals. We want as many people to see this show as possible so we are raising money to cover our production costs and to be able to offer sliding scale tickets. We have a fund-raising web-page set up here:
We are trying to raise $3000 by June 11th! We are at a little over $1000 right now and need all the help we can get. If we don’t raise our goal of $3000 by June 11th, we don’t get any of the already raised funds. I’m asking all of you to give what you can to this project. Even $1 or $10 could mean that someone gets to see this show who otherwise wouldn’t be able to. I believe in the work that Roman is doing in these communities. I truly think it’s making the world a better place and that’s why I’m asking you to contribute to this project.
Here is that link to contribute and learn more again:
Please, just a couple bucks could really help! If you can’t contribute, reblogging or posting the link on your Facebook would super-help too! And of course, let me know if any of you have any questions.
Thanks for continuing to follow me on Tumblr. You’re all great.
